About CATS

Our mission
At Colorado Athletic Training School (CATS), our mission is to help kids grow into happy, healthy, and confident individuals. We offer programs for athletes of all ages and abilities, specializing in gymnastics while fostering a supportive community where every child can thrive.
What we offer
Founded in 1988, CATS has been Boulder’s home for gymnastics and rock climbing for over 35 years. Our gym features top-notch gymnastics equipment, an indoor bouldering section, and aerial fabrics, creating a unique training environment for every athlete.
We offer programs ranging from parent-tot classes to high-level competitive gymnastics, as well as open workouts, Ninja classes, camps, and birthday parties – ensuring there’s something for everyone.
Our story
CATS was founded by Rob Candelaria, a competitive gymnast at the University of Colorado and an avid rock climber. Inspired to share his love of both sports, Rob built one of the first indoor climbing walls in the nation. Later, he met and married Wendy Rein – a rock climber, triathlete, and gymnast – and together they continue to lead and inspire the CATS community.
Our community connection
For over 35 years, CATS has been more than a gym — we’ve been a part of Boulder’s heartbeat. Since opening our doors in 1988, we’ve proudly grown alongside generations of Boulder families, many of whom return long after graduation to reconnect with their CATS roots.
You may have seen us tumbling down Pearl Street or bouncing on our long trampoline at the annual BolderBoulder — sharing our love of movement with the whole community. From big events like these to the everyday connections we make inside the gym, CATS has always been about more than skills and routines.
We’re a tight-knit family of coaches, athletes, and parents who believe in the power of movement, the joy of play, and the strength of community. Just like the mountains that surround us, CATS is a place where kids can grow strong, grounded, and adventurous — with the support of a community that truly cares.
